The Grateful Garment Project
/Picture this, a child is taken to a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) facility after being sexually abused to be examined and checked medically and emotionally. They're devastated, tired and hungry. All they want to do is go to a comfortable place, not talk to anyone and just let everything go back to normal. Instead, they have to answer questions, go through tests, and maybe even give up their clothing for forensic evidence leaving them with nothing but a simple paper hospital gown. This is where the Grateful Garment Project steps in, helping make this process a little more comfortable. They ensure that every victim of a SART facility or a victim whom seeks medical attention and/or law enforcement involvement is provided with whatever new clothing, toiletry, snacks and miscellaneous items they may require to reduce any further impact on their being. This small act of kindness is making a big difference in the minds of the kids who just went through such a traumatic event and it just amazes us every time we hear about it.
