Seven More Silicon Valley Non-Profits Funded by the Intero Foundation

Over $225,000 given to local Bay Area children in 2014 alone, and they’re not stopping!

On September 18th, the Intero Foundation issued their fourth round of grants for the year directed towards the California communities of Almaden in San Jose, Cupertino, and Menlo Park. In 2002, the leaders of Intero Real Estate Services, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate and wholly owned subsidiary of HomeServices of America, Inc., founded the Intero Foundation to be a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children in the communities local to where Intero conducts business.

Over a decade later, the Foundation empowers a diversity of organizations that positively impact the education and personal development of children. Through Intero’s agents, employees and fundraising events, the Foundation has generated over $3 million with an endowment of more than $775,000 and has given $225,000 in 2014 year to date.

In order to sustain its commitment to giving back to the community, each quarter, the Intero Foundation presents grants to non-profits that have been approved by the Foundation Committee. This third quarter round of grants were brought to the foundation by Intero’s offices located in San Jose’s Almaden area, Cupertino, and Menlo Park. A total of $31,500 split amongst the following organizations:

  1. Jose Valdes Math Foundation - Provides a comprehensive math education to middle and high school students to achieve academic success. A grant of $6,000, presented by Intero Almaden, an independently owned and operated franchise, will go towards their intensive summer math program.
  2. Pathways Home Health & Hospice – A community based organization that provides health services and hospice care at home for elders to children with life-threatening illnesses. A grant of $3,500, presented by Intero Almaden, will provide care givers to terminally ill children so they can spend their last days at home surrounded by family.
  3. Cancer Care Point – Provides counseling services to anyone whose life has been touched by cancer. A grant of $5,000, presented by Intero Cupertino, will go towards support services for cancer patients and their families.
  4. JW House – Provides a place for families to stay while their loved ones are going through treatment at a local hospital. A grant of $3,000, presented by Intero Cupertino, will go towards their GAP program (Guest Assistance Program) which is designed to help families facing financial crises by discounting or waiving the overnight fee to stay at the facility.
  5. Neighborhood Arts – Provides after-school arts education for the East Palo Alto Charter School. A grant of $1,500, presented by Intero Menlo Park and Intero Woodside, will go towards the purchase of personalized portfolios for participating students.
  6. Bring Me A Book – Works to strengthen the language and literacy skills of underserved children. A grant of $7,500, presented by Intero Menlo Park and Intero Woodside, will support their Digital4Literacy program which gives preschoolers in Santa Clara and Oakland access to age appropriate ebooks.
  7. Scholastic Interest Group – Helps at risk young men residing in low income communities of San Francisco reach their full potential by offering a variety of programs that promote the importance of staying in school, the value of high education, and the critical need of personal character development. A grant of $5,000 will support educational “field trips” positioned to expose these young men to a world of learning opportunities and professions in the hopes that they will be inspired to continue their education through high school and into college.
