Intero Foundation Continues to Grow the Business of Giving

The Intero Foundation Grants $64,740 to Silicon Valley Organizations

On September 19th, the Intero Foundation issued another round of grants directed towards the California communities of Los Gatos, San Jose, and Saratoga. In 2002, the leaders of Intero Real Estate Services, Inc. founded the Intero Foundation to be a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children in the communities local to where Intero conducts business.

Over a decade later, the Foundation empowers a diversity of organizations that positively impact the education and personal development of children. Through Intero’s agents, employees and fundraising events, the Foundation has generated over $2.7 million with an endowment of approximately $535,000.

In order to sustain its commitment to giving back to the community, each quarter, the Intero Foundation presents grants to non-profits that have been approved by the Foundation Committee. This last quarter of the year focused on giving to the Silicon Valley.

For the fall quarter, the Intero Foundation gave a total of $64,740 split amongst the following organizations:

  1. Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga – Dedicated to addressing specific needs within the community by providing services, education, and financial assistance to at-risk populations including children, families, and seniors.The Intero Los Gatos office presented $6,000 for Operation School Bell which provides books and clothing to improve the lives of students in need.
  2. Northwest YMCA – Working to strengthen the foundations of community through a commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility.A grant of $8,000, presented by Intero Los Gatos, will help to fund their summer food program within their summer achievement programs.
  3. Sunday Friends – Runs programs designed to help low-income families break the generational cycle of poverty through an integrated learning economy that offers families the chance to earn the things they need.The Intero Los Gatos office will present a grant of $7,240 to go towards writing, craft and cooking supplies for their Service Projects to teach kids the power of giving.
  4. Jose Valdes Math Foundation – Provides a comprehensive math education to middle and high school students to achieve academic success. A grant of $10,000, presented by Intero Saratoga, will go towards their intensive summer math program.
  5. Peer Court – Empowers youth by teaching them about our judicial system, allowing them to actively participate in our community, instilling confidence in them and inspiring them to stay in school. Intero Saratoga will present $8,500 so the organization can recruit more teen volunteers and cover the costs related to trainings and hearing.
  6. Breathe California – Works to reduce the impact of lung disease through prevention, education, advocacy and patient services.A grant of $7,500 presented by Intero Willow Glen will go towards Camp Superstuff, a week-long summer camp that provides asthma education and family services for low-income and uninsured asthmatic children age 6-12.
  7. Good Karma Bikes – Provides homeless and low income working people with safe, reliable bicycle transportation to provide them freedom and ability to travel to where they need to go.Their youth program, Good Karma Kids, is designed to have youth experience philanthropy through requesting donations, rehabilitating bikes, and granting them to peers in need.A grant presented by Intero Willow Glen of $7,500 will go towards funding this youth program.
  8. Turning Wheels for Kids – Provides new bikes, helmets and locks for low income children in need, disabled children and children with down syndrome and autism.$10,000, presented by Intero Willow Glen will go towards purchasing helmets to be given with bikes during the organization’s annual Big Bike Build in December.
